P Ramlee

P Ramlee

I have admired this man for so long. Ever since I was a child, the sound of his music, his voice reverberating in my living room has always been constant. Not a day would go by without listening to his music. He was a producer, a director, a musician and an actor. He was great at everything he did. His career or I should say his passion  was at its peak in Singapore where much of the filming was done at Jalan Ampas. Sadly, he is no longer around. They say, God takes away people who are talented. In this case, Allah has taken his soul. May he rest in piece. Innalillahi wa inna illaihiraji un.

I sketched a picture of him. There is another one. A better looking one. I'm going to put up later.
I wish I could have met him. Let's see if the Heavens would be the place for me to finally meet him.

P.S.: I had a major crush on him when I was younger. I still do now. ;D

Nazar Completed! and a little something else...

Assalamualaikum to all!

I'm happy to say that I have completed my nazar. My nazar was to fast for ten days continuously without any breaks if my brother succeeds in his exams and enters the poly of his choice. He did! Alhamdullilah. I am happy for him and grateful to the Almighty. And yes, true to my promise I managed to fast for ten days nonstop. It wasn't as hard as I expected. I was smooth-sailing. It slowly became a habit at one point. Now, whenever I eat, I feel like I'm not supposed to. Hahaha....

Another thing on my mind...
Ever felt at peace? Ever felt like your heart, yourself being happy? Because, honestly, I feel at peace with myself. Happy even. Its the kind of spiritual happiness you get. And I'm getting that. My sister says that she loves the fact that I am not stressed now because I've become a much better person. Seeking solace in Allah has been my source of peace and happiness. You know when you feel like you're getting close to something so great kind of feeling. It feels great. Truly.

And so, to whoever out there reading this post, I say let go of your material needs. Let go of money. Let go of your work. Take time. Be by yourself. Think and appreciate what you already have. I know as humans it may be natural to want, to desire for more. And you'll think about the things that you don't have. Well, DON'T do that! Think of those people in the world who are in need. Appreciate. Be thankful. Whatever your beliefs are, take time off, find your spiritual self. Cleanse yourself of unhealthy habits and thoughts. Eventually, you will realize what feels you with peace. What makes YOU happy, not the people around you happy but YOU.

A few days ago, I read an article about an Austrian millionaire selling away everything because he said his fortune was making him miserable. This was what he said: "My idea is to have nothing left. Absolutely nothing. Money is counterproductive-it prevents happiness to come".
Instead he will move out of his luxury Alpine retreat into a small wooden hut in the mountains or a simple bedsit in Innsbruck.
Another inspiring thin he said: "For a longtime I believed that more wealth and luxury autonatically meant more happiness. I come from a very poor family where the rules were to work more to achieve more material things and I applied this for many years. More and more I heard the words 'Stop what you are doing now--all this luxury and consumerism-and start you real life'. I had the feeling I was working like a slave for things that I did not wish for or need."

You can find the article here on telegraph online.

Last but not least he said: "I do not have the right to give any other person advice. I was just listening to the voice of my heart and soul".

So when was the last time you listened to your heart?

Memories Indelible

Salam to All...
Recently, I went to visit my late maternal grandparents. We drove to Pusara Abadi and Pusara Aman. First, grave we went to was my grandmother's. Nothing has changed there. Other than the fact that the trees, grasses ad whatnots are overgrown. And the things you find at a grave....So we cleared and tidied up a bit. The two stones on the grave still standing strong. The engrave name of hers ever so white. Though I didn't get to see her(I was so young when she went away that literally I was blind at that age), that was this gnawing sadness in me. We offered prayers. I had the boldness in me to take a picture. I know its rude. Very. I'll explain why I did that later. Next up, we went to my aunt's mother-in-law's grave. It was nearby so we thought why not stop by, be polite. We crossed the quiet little road into a hidden path. The grave was distinguishable by the brown bricks surrounding a green patch of grass. Yes, there were an abundance of whatnots. I saw a few lizards. And I really hate lizards. Some graves there were in a pitiful state. As if there was no one caring for them. As if their relatives have forgotten about them. As if they never once existed. I guess that's how humans can be.
After that little spring cleaning, we moved on to my grandfather's grave. We had to leave that pusara and go on to the next pusara which was a distance away. The next pusara has been 'modernised' in a sense that they name the plots of land like carparks. We reached the grave in no time. Did a little cutting, trimming, plucking and etc. It felt like gardening. But it was worthwhile in the end knowing I did  it out of love. I loved my grandfather very much. I still do. I mean, you can't forget the person who has been there half your life, raising you. We read a few prayers. That gnawing sadness within almost bursting. But we all had to leave someday. And so, later we left.
Okay, the reason as to why I took pictures at the cemetery. I suppose I always act weird or try to act funny there. Because it is a facade, a disguise to mask my sadness. Everyone tries to act brave or courageous in their lives when in actual fact, at that point in time they are the most vulnerable. Well, that was my time.

Natural sights

As I was lying on my back at the backseat of the bus, I saw the sun. I looked at it for too long and my paranoid fear of spoiling my eyes took over me. So I decided to look at it through the camera. This one was taken as the bus kept on moving.
The sun surrounded by its fluffy white companions. Such a sight....
Not forgetting our shy old friend. Only appearing in the darkness of nights. The moon cushioned in comfort between misty clouds. Always full of enigma my dear bella (moon).

Such sights amazes me. To think that God created all that exist. Without God's permission, everything would cease to exist. I am simply happy to be able to experience life. Subhanallah.

Hijab Uplifted

As the sun rises and I walk along the way
Over my head, the hijab I wear everyday
Stray eyes widened, stared and gazed
And they think I was forced to become a slave
But listen, brothers and sisters, of my little tale
Of why I chose to wear my veil
They look at me and think 'oppression'
That her parents coerced her by agression
But friends, let me tell you that I am not oppressed
Neither have I been repressed or depressed
Some may see the 'thing' as strange
Because of beliefs gone deranged
But what I have achieve is liberation
For I am no longer jugded for my sex appeal or attraction
What I am judged for are my morals and personality
While still holding true to my piety and dignity
Following the Hijab code fills me with ease
For only Allah do I please
Women adorning too much make-up for their transcient flirts
And putting on tight tube tops and miniskirts
Becoming slaves to fashion that degrade us
Begging for love from men who use us and leave us
Yes, we all have a body, a physical manifestation on Earth
But to cover it with cloth so dearth?
So look in the mirror and then you'll see
Of the tainted innocence and gone purity
Do know that you are a gem so priceless
And that you deserve so much more happiness
The body is a vessel for your mind and intellect
And so becomes your duty to treat it with respect
As such I cloak myself in dresses and veils of mystery
To protect my sexuality from eyes unworthy
Because it is a gift to the man who loves you
And holds you in high esteem to marry you
The hijab calms my fears, soothes my heart
Knowing that we will never part
Thus, brothers and sisters believe what I say
For I am truly happy this way
Now if you see me on the streets with my veil
Do remember of my humble tale
Listen and judge my character as I voice
My reason to wear hijab has only been my choice
What I am now is free
To be happy, to be me
To please Allah, the Almighty.
