Inquisitive nature has always been characteristic of my being.
Perhaps it is the consequence of thinking too much. At least it is better than not thinking at all.
I LOVE asking questions. Not mathematical questions. Not structured questions. Just questions that matter. Questions that really have a variety of answers. Like situational and philosophical questions. About life. About family. About love and heartbreak. About friends and enemies. About the sugar sweet and bittersweet experiences. About personal beliefs and values. About religion and spirituality. About society and everything in it. Essentially, anything and everything that has no absolute answer. Thats the fun of it. And it is indeed a good way to understand and get to know people.
Lately, asking questions has been a habit of mine. Especially directing questions to a dear friend, Hanisah. Her answers, perspectives and opinions to the variety of questions(no matter how silly it may be) are interesting, eye-opening and surprising at times. It was also good to know that I'm not the only soul with strange questions effervescing in that brain of mine. Not the only soul who have gone through similar candy sweet experiences and pretty rough patches of life. Not the only soul with similar beliefs and values. And not the only soul who wants to grow and be better as a muslimah. Hope my inquisitive nature didn't annoy you too much Nisa :D Oh, and the whole experience was intriguing because it sort of fueled my passion in anthropology, sociology, psychology and everything related to them. People-watching is indeed very fascinating. :)
The person who created this blog some six months ago is different from the one typing this post at this very moment.
Time flies. Crises arise. Solutions come to rescue. When you need help, you ask for it, only then do you realize the truly worthy people around you. Friends come and go (except for the exceptional few:)) Families change yet stay close by your side.
Bottom line: Everything changes.
I have changed. Hopefully for the better. Time brings progress only if we pray and work hard for it. The belief that maturity of wisdom, translucence of veracity, virtue of loyalty and being simply faithful have all crept into my soul is in me. Pray that we all grow together to become even better beings on this planet we call home. Insya-Allah.
"Showing patience in (avoiding) the unlawful things is more excellent than showing patience in calamities and afflictions. Whoever abandoned an act of disobedience although he was capable of performing it is one whose fight against his soul is most intense and most excellent. This is because he left a thing which his soul tempted him with and made him aspire for. So he opposed it and was capable of defeating it."
Palestine, a country that has and is being subjected to unjustified crimes and undeserved invasion. As a human being, I will always feel for someone or anyone who has a simple streak of bad luck, having problems or suffering in pain. It is intrinsic. It is human nature. As a muslim, to see and hear every single day about the atrocities that Palestinians are being subjected to by the Israelis, my heart aches and cries. I can barely imagine how they must feel. To go through life under suppression by foreign forces like that everyday. As brothers and sisters not only in Islam but in this entire world, should we not care and love one another? Aren't we all of the same race? The human race?
When we see innocent children on the street being shot at without reason, should we close our eyes and turn blind? And when we hear the cries of mothers wailing over the bodies of their infants, should we shut our ears and turn deaf? And when they take away food and water from families barely surviving, should we seal our lips and become mute?
Palestine has been through this occupation for so long. I didn't recognize it was literally an occupation till I read up and watched documentaries about it. Israeli soldiers in cities of Palestine, guarding major roads, restricting entry of people, food, water and aid, taking away the land previously owned by Palestinians in a bid to deprive them of their livelihood. Children fear for their lives every step they take out of the house. Guns and rifles being pointed at them while they walk kilometres to school. Women being forced to unveil themselves in public. Fathers and sons beaten and insulted by soldiers for no apparent reason. How are these not signs of oppression by foreign forces? How are these symptoms being ignored? How are these not OCCUPATION?
I know that I am just one human being. A woman with limited power. Even so, I'm doing my part (albeit small) by praying for the safety and happiness that Palestine deserves. I'll constantly pray for them. I'll constantly donate for their cause. Palestinians like anyone else are human beings on this place we all share, Earth. We have our basic rights and necessities fulfilled. Shouldn't theirs be fulfilled too?
Dear Palestine, I pray for the justice and peace that you deserve. Amin.
Music is a quintessential part of life.Songs that simply rock, songs that make you dance, songs that makes you cry, songs that vex you, and etc. And then there are songs that you can never get rid off. In a good way I mean. They remain indelibly etched in your mind. These songs have such an impact on you that there's never a day you go without listening to it. Or never a day passes that you'll be humming it under your breath, in your head and in your heart. These songs will also go on and on and on, lasting for generations. I love these kind of songs. And such a great example would be compositions and music by the late P Ramlee. His songs are amazing. Beautiful. Even if you don't understand the lyrics, it doesn't matter because the melody, the rhythm will speak for itself. This particular song touches my heart every single time.
Nak Dara Rindu~ P. Ramlee
In the night The moon shines Peace and quiet, around me Heard the melancholy Of stars a thousand Persuading sadness because longing Songs of past In the night The full moon The calm wind blows Saying love Singing melodiously Praise wistfully Softly mellow As young lady yearns Tanjong Katong The waters are blue The place to bathe For beautiful young lady From the same village Yet she’s being missed This is but far from the eyes Tanjong Katong The waters are blue The place to bathe For beautiful young lady From the same village Yet she’s being missed This is but far from the eyes
Gitchee Gitchee Goo...The last thing I said to her.
My little baby sister left. I know that she's 13 and almost all grown up but she's still my BABY sister. You can't help it. This feeling. When you've seen your sibling in your mother's womb, growing then she's out of the oven. The connection began even before she was born. And it becomes even stronger as you see her taking her first steps, mumbling her first words, giggling that contagious laughter of hers. Those memories are indelible. Then slowly but surely she grows up faster than you imagined. And she's following your every move, wearing your clothes, your shoes, your accessories without permission.Typical teenagers. Ticks me off. Sigh....Time really flies. And she'll eventually outgrow you. Just like my brother who is bigger and taller than me. Just like my baby sister who is as tall as me and probably bigger than me at 13 years old while I'm only 18. I admit that I've long stopped growing. But its okay. I am still their eldest sister. They've owed me so much over the years that its debt that I'll keep reminding them forever. Love being the eldest :D
My sister left for Malaysia today. My mum is very much affected. Me? Not so much but everyone misses her. I pray that she's going to be safe throughout the whole journey. Insya-Allah.
Days before she left, we were watching Phineas and Ferb and their musical antics. Their song really got stuck in our heads. And I'm really lovin' it! It is childish but its amusing.
But I especially love the chorus because we would just do loads of weird theatrical gestures. So it goes like this:
Here's what I'm talkin' 'bout!
Bow chicka bow, wow! That's what my baby says! Mow mow mow! And my heart start's pumpin! Chicka chicka choo whop! Never gonna stop! Gitchee Gitchee Goo means that I love you!
