Origami Love

Origami is the art of folding paper into shapes.

Apparently, I'm loving origami. Some may see it as boring and plain ordinary. Some, like me, see it as something mysterious, elusive, yet vibrant with all the colours imaginable. Seriously, the valley and mountain folds, the creases, the twisting and curling of paper...It is an art that has its origin dating back to the 6th century Japan. It is amazing that such an art form has survived for so long. And I'm glad it has survived up till today.

Origami has had an effect on people. For me, I've managed to control my anger and broaden the boundaries of my patience. Also, I simply LOVE the colours of papers. Their different patterns, their textures, the crisp sound of paper being folded and creased. The end product is always satisfying.:) As of today, I've made quite a number of pretty little things either my sewing, glueing, painting, writing, drawing and etc. It didn't occur to me as an artist to try out origami. And I believe that to truly pursue your passion, one would have to try the myriad of branches within that passion.

I've always believed in the ability of art to affect the senses and emotions, as a mode of expression and to discover the human condition. With all my heart, and with permission from the Almighty, I will try my very best to keep on pursuing what I believe in.

Pudding

Chocolate pudding...Mmmm....

Yesterday, the kitchen was bustling with pots and pans, running water, cocoa powder hanging in the air and blazing fire on the stove. Yet, I was the only soul in the kitchen then. My mission was to make chocolate pudding. One big pot sat on the stove with the fire ablaze. Water , sugar and evaporated milk came in next. Stir, stir, stir. When it boils, start to add the pudding mix. Stir, stir, stir. Lots of stirring involve. Switch off the stove fire. And let the chocolate pudding cool. I sat and waited for the pudding mix to cool while getting high from the aroma of cocoa drifting in the air. It was better than eating chocolate I must say. After some time, the pudding mix have to be poured into cute little containers. I did that and off they go for more cooling.

End product was AWESOME! Chocolate pudding dessert established. It really looked like authentic chocolate pudding just that it has been lovingly home-made. Everyone else loved it. And so did I. :)

Next project: Mango pudding with small cubes of mango inside and maybe a side drink of banana smoothie.

Cooking Reveries

Reveries..

I have been cooking a lot lately. Its not that I cook so that I can eat. I cook for a bunch of people. Yet, I eat only when my stomach starts growling. Like today, I remembered eating once in a day. And that was enough for me. Because the rest of the time, I'll feel nausea creeping up my throat if I attempt to pass any morsel of food down my oesophagus. Weird...

Desiring for Maggi Pizza...Yum...
Heard of Maggi Pizza? Its an extremely simple meal.

Say, you choose Curry Flavoured Maggi. First, place the maggi in boiling water, with the heat on med. Then, transfer curry powder provided in the packaging into a bowl. Next, crack two eggs into the same bowl and with a fork, mix everything up. For the maggi, drain the maggi of water. Let it drain for sometime. Lastly, place the cooked maggi into the bowl containing the egg and curry powder mixture and once again, mix everything up. Well mixed is very important.
Heat a flat pan,add oil, and then pour all the contents in the bowl into the hot pan. Spread it on the pan to make it circular-looking. Fry till both sides are golden brown. Voila!

Simple meal established.

Usually made this when I'm tired of eating plain old watery maggi.
Oh man, I have been wanting to cook couscous. Darn, I have to go find couscous first. Go NTUC and find first. I LOVE going to supermarkets. My eyes run wild because there's promotions here and there and everywhere. But have to restrain myself from loosening my purse strings too soon.

I'm frustrated I don't have an oven. Or even a simple toaster oven. Or a functional microwave(Have one at  home but it has long decided to retire but now acting as storage place). It is very irritating to search for good recipes and then they say, "Preheat the oven up to 300F". I'm like, "Are you kidding me?!". I truly don't mind having my TV in my room taken away and replaced with an oven. The things I can do. The food I can make and bake. Birthday wish: To have an oven to call my own. :)

Darn, now that I've said it out loud, it'll never come true. Guess its time to loosen those purse strings of mine?

Night Bullshit

Its been so long... Gradually recollecting how tears are warm making their descent from the eyes. Surpassing the high cheekbones, down valleys and they'll keep on going and going. Until with a sweep of the hand, poof! Disappear like as if the whole thing didn't happen.
Indeed, life has its ups and downs. Ups so high that you feel like you can do anything, aim for the impossible, touch the massive skies with dainty little fingers, imagine the unimaginable. Downs so low that the deepest and darkest bowels of the Earth can never reach your feelings, that existence may no longer be an option, imagine ways of escaping reality.

After my post of the Afghan Flower, and my growing awareness of global issues, social inequality and the sheer disregard for innocent human lives all over the world(Been reading a lot) I just feel as old and as crappy as the world itself. Exhausted of opening my eyes to the everyday miseries of mental suicide bombers. Weary of the old age game of blaming others for their mistakes. Fatigued by the bloody scenes of disaster zones and war torn areas plaguing much of the world. Seriously... A whole load of crap are happening. Is  it really the end of times? I do believe in it. Maybe we are living in the end of times. Subhanallah. I hope that somehow, by Allah's grace, we don't live to see the final day.

Omg, my mood swings are getting worse...

The Portrait

Afghan Flower

Mesmerized, there was this sudden desire in me to draw this beautiful image. Though I can never mimic the original photograph I knew I would have to re-create it my way. This portrait happened right after I chanced upon a soul-stirring photo of an Afghan man smelling a red rose.
The rose seems to symbolize the beauty of what was once before. The act itself is as if in remembrance of family and friends lost in a war that has ravaged Afghanistan for so long that no one remembers the true cause of the war.
I am deeply saddened that many of those who have died because of the war are civilians, innocent children with their mothers while their sons and husbands go out to fight a war they don't understand.

"What the Afghans all had in common was bereavement and loss, losses so terrible that we had stopped asking questions about family or spouses or children.
The answers, we had learned, were painful to give and painful to hear."

Bumping off the road of reverie

Yesterday afternoon, I was staring into the distance. Gazing at the green trees, the sway of the leaves according to the rhythm of the wind. Somehow I got into a trance-like state. My day reveries drifted ino my mind. Then as quick as they entered, they left in a hurry as the sound of a car horn blasted, chasing my sweet reverie away... Its like the forces of nature were in control and they knew I was slacking off that moment.

Birthday Blooper

She was looking through her handphone calendar yesterday checking out who's birthdays are coming up soon. Then she stumbled upon July 21. And she went, " Who in the world is this that his/her birthday falls on the 21th?". Curious, she checked... And she found out, "Oh, its me!".

Next moment, she was smiling sheepishly in embarrassment, looking around to see if anyone saw her little blooper. Only to realize that its way past midnight and everyone was asleep.
